When you collapse the center stand, it pops against the bottom of the crankcase cover. To absorb the impact, this rubber block sits on the center stand.
If you lose the rubber or it is broken, install a new one as soon as possible to prevent damage to the sump cover and noise while driving.
Listen to your father and always use an (original) rubber!
